ABOUT ABOUT

International Jazz Day

Drawing from a rich variety of musical influences, La Voz de Tres combines elements of South American folklore with jazz, brazilian music, latin jazz, nueva trova, and chamber music. Using only three instruments- voice, 7-string guitar and piano- the group creates surprising textures that are both bold and nuanced.

In a remarkable career spanning nearly five decades, composer and multi-wind player Paul McCandless has brought his exquisite sound and musicality to numerous projects, including multiple Grammy-winning recording and two seminal world/jazz groups: the original Paul Winter Consort and highly innovative and influential quartet Oregon. Though he originally distinguished himself as a virtuoso oboe player with a startling and unique voice as an improviser, he is equally at home with the english horn, soprano saxophone, bass clarinet and other wind instruments. In a series of special concerts which includes a performance in Lee, Massachusetts for International Jazz Day, McCandless joins La Voz de Tres for interpretations of the music from their recent album Sueños y Delirios, which features music by Jobim, Stevie Wonder, Arsenio Rodriguez, Cesar Portillo De La Luz, Milton Nascimento, Billy Strayhorn, Silvio Rodriguez, and the group’s guitarist Ennis. The program will also feature original compositions by McCandless and Natalia Bernal as well as other songs of the Americas.

As long time McCandless fans, the trio was elated to discover the beautiful way his reed sounds meshed with a long-established group sound during several engagements early in 2016. Audiences responded enthusiastically and remarked about the instant rapport and the four musicians look forward to bringing this very personal dynamic to further audiences.
